BJBabb | New Barn

New Barn, Kent

A custom-built utilitarian style barn, home to a fleet of prestige cars. Sensitively designed and constructed to blend into the surrounding agricultural landscape, creating an open plan garage space that is easily accessible from the main residence.

THE REQUIREMENT

The client required a new barn construction to keep their luxury car collection. They wanted the barn to be easily accessible, and to include amenities such as full electrical installation and decoration throughout.

THE OUTCOME

We designed and constructed a steel-framed 4-bay barn in the traditional Sussex style, featuring brick plinth at lower level with timber weatherboarding above, and a corrugated sheet roof. Once inside, the barn is open plan to maximise space. To complete the utilitarian aesthetic, we finished the new access drive in tarmac.

Our in-house team managed every aspect of the project, from concept design to planning, building control and construction.

HOW WE MADE IT

  • Tree surgery to provide access
  • Excavation and construction of pads and reinforced concrete raft foundation
  • Installation of steel-framed structure and corrugated roof panels
  • Laying brick plinth
  • Timber stud infilling between steel structure
  • Installation of breathable membrane, and battens and weatherboarding to walls, guttering and downpipes
  • Installation of aco drains and formation of soakaway
  • Excavation and formation of new driveway with concrete edging
  • Full electrical installation
  • Internal boarding and decoration
